‘Beauté Congo’ exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain
One of the nicest surprises of the season and an unexpected delight for latecomers, the run of the innovative exhibition ‘Beauté Congo, 1926-2015, Congo Kitoko’ at the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art has been extended until January 2016. Here we head for the Democratic Republic of Congo to discover the diversity of the art scene in this country, the vibrant hub of an extraordinary cultural vitality. The modern painting of the 1920s, when the country was still a Belgian colony, is the point of departure for an exhilarating artistic tour in which music, sculpture, photography and comics are also honoured. Bright and jubilant works in distinctive clean styles and featuring amazing inventiveness make this an exhibition not to be missed. JR.
