Ecole des Loisirs children’s books at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs
Once upon a time there was an unprecedented and astonishing exhibition where Blaise the masked chick and his band, Achilles the small crocodile and Croque Bisous celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the Ecole des Loisirs. From 1965 the children’s books issued by this publisher were a source of imaginative delight, filled with superbly engaging illustrations. Carte-blanche was given to the publisher and its authors-illustrators such as Claude Ponti, Stephanie Blake, Kimiko, Dorothée de Monfreid and Tomi Ungerer. Now the Museum of Decorative Arts presents an exhibition bursting with original drawings, manuscripts and surprising installations to reveal half a century of funny, rich and bold picture stories that will transport you back to the halcyon days of childhood.
