FOR LOVERS OF PARIS ...
Hungarian photographer Gyulus Halasz was born in 1899 in what is now Brasov, Transylvania. Fascinated by Paris as a child, he returned here after completing his studies and began to shine his artistic spotlight on the city, revealing it in all its beautiful wonder and occasional strangeness, the magic of his lens transmuting everything into a singular, passionate and compelling vision. Now you can experience this visionary’s passion for his adopted city in Brassai, For The Love Of Paris, an exhibition which runs until March 31st at the City Hall. Scenes of Parisian life in the light of the day or in the misty shadows of the night, fleeting silhouettes or the charcoal burners along the Seine at Bercy, Brassai saw all and recorded all as his personal declarations of love for the unusual, unknown and often neglected aspects of Paris. This exhibition of more than 300 photographs of spontaneous beauty can be seen as a collection of Brassai’s love letters to the city, and considered as such there could be no more suitable time of the year to view them.
