New Parisian Institutions

New Parisian Institutions

The Paris of yesterday is the Paris of today, and it is currently around the Oberkampf district that the energy of the city is focussed. Just lose yourself in this area to find the soul of an authentic and contemporary, rather than nostalgic, Paris. Far from the surrounding standardisation and conformity, the eclecticism and visionary creativity of the new Parisian institutions compete with all that New York, London or Berlin have to offer. Additionally, as luck would have it, they are only a short walk from the HOTEL FABRIC. Just cross the boulevard Beaumarchais or saunter over to the Canal Saint Martin and you will discover picturesquely lovely walks towards the Bastille, République and the Marais.

HAND ON HEART

Of course, all these places have something very special in common. These addresses, to which the key is knowledge, discovery and sharing, have each lifted the curtain on a good cause.

  • Centre Commercial: This is primarily a collaborative space highlighting human scale initiatives and ecological materials, integrating the social and environmental aspects. Here you will find only brands that meet the criteria of transparency, free and ethical trade and ecological awareness in the process of creation. These are labels such as Repetto, Gloverall, A Peace Treaty, Roseanna, Saint James, The Sellier, La Botte Guardiane or Veja, the famous brand of sneakers whose founder, Sébastien Kopp, is none other than the co-founder of Centre Commercial itself.

  • Merci : This warm and welcoming place embraces an ambitious philanthropic vision, as all the profits made in this shop are donated to an endowment fund dedicated to disadvantaged children in Madagascar. This wonderful idea was conceived by Marie-France and Bernard Cohen, founders of the Bonpoint brand.

  • Manger : This restaurant is the brainchild of Thierry Monassier, who is the chairman of a charity which arranges for the employment of disadvantaged workers in order to teach them a trade and thereby help to reintegrate them into society. The famous name chefs have all contributed their efforts free of charge and a percentage of the profits is donated to the charity.

  • Le Comptoir Général : If the place is new to Paris, the initiative is, too. Promoting awareness of the marginalized cultures and poverty stricken regions to be found all over the world and particularly in Africa, Le Comptoir Général is effectively a temple to the cultures of the global disadvantaged. Profits are used to fund various artistic, cultural and community projects and to promote solidarity. Surely there is not a more beautiful place for Paris to open to the world.
