The Musée Carnavalet, a stroll amidst beautiful Parisian scenery
This is one of the oldest mansions to be found in the timeless Marais, dating back to the mid-16th century. Once the home of the Parisian aristocrat, Madame de Sévigné, today it is a museum devoted to the history of the City of Light. Presenting five centuries of Parisian architecture, a suite of rooms reconstructs the ambience of private residences of the various periods, using original furniture and décor to show the changes in interior design fashions over time. This evocative setting for a stroll back into the past continues in the museum’s Orangery, where major exhibitions are staged regularly. Just pause to savour the loveliness of its tranquil gardens, tucked away in the heart of the city. JR.
