Yann Couvreur, the new pâtisserie in the heart of the Marais
This is one of the most gastronomically exciting news items of the autumn, and certainly the most seductively tempting. A year after the opening of his first pâtisserie in eastern Paris, the 34 year old rising star pastry chef Yann Couvreur has inaugurated another new address, this one in the heart of the Marais.
With rough wood, the inclusion of copper in the Hungarian point parquet flooring and touches of celadon green to complement the hanging plants that invade the space so charmingly, this is more than a patisserie; it is a place of interest on its own terms.
Here, the former pastry chef of the Hôtel Prince de Galles Paris stretches the traditions of haute pâtisserie and brings his high-flying creations to the streets. Street food is given pride of place in this pastry shop and the takeaway counters here buzz with activity.
You can glance into the kitchen from the shop and from the street and see irresistible creations being made, ready to be ordered. Behind the simplicity of each of these recipes lies a delicacy of preparation that leaves nothing to chance. If you prefer to sit down, there are fifteen places at the tables so you can linger while savouring the chef’s latest taste masterpieces.
