Épopée, a bistronomic restaurant in Paris 11th

A gourmet "Épopée" in the 11th arrondissement

Just a few minutes’ walk from Hôtel FABRIC, Épopée has quickly established itself as one of the most inspired dining spots in the Charonne neighbourhood. Here, you can forget cramped tables and noisy dining rooms: the space is generous and inviting. Beneath the glass roof, the light softens the atmosphere and sets the tone, this is somewhere to eat well, certainly, but also to linger.

The project brings together chef Yurika Kitano, sommelier Thomas Legrand and restaurateur Megumi Terao. Together, they have created a bistronomic address in Paris 11th where French culinary tradition is delicately infused with Japanese influences.

Precise, confident and subtly bold cooking

At Épopée, the dish descriptions may read simply. On the plate, however, there is far more at play. Yurika Kitano works with texture, contrast and seasoning in a style that is both exacting and refreshingly restrained.

At lunchtime, the set menu (starter and main or main and dessert at €24, three courses at €29) attracts local regulars as well as visiting food lovers. You might begin with roasted cauliflower lifted by an anchovy sauce in the style of tonnato, beautifully balanced between richness and brightness. Each creation reflects a clear intention to elevate classical foundations with finesse. For those with a sweet tooth, the kabocha pudding, made with delicately sweet Japanese pumpkin, glazed with miso caramel, offers a refined nod to the chef’s heritage.

In the evening, the menu takes on greater depth. Fine No.2 oysters paired with Granny Smith apple, haddock and kombu jelly provide a fresh and elegant opening. Among the mains, braised beef shin served with spinach, radicchio and a blackcurrant condiment brings a more grounded, robust note, while monkfish with butternut squash and a chorizo and mussel sauce explores warmer, subtly maritime flavours. To finish, a reimagined Mont Blanc featuring kabocha combines chestnut cream, sponge and meringue in a contemporary, architectural presentation.

A thoughtful and accessible wine cellar

The wine list curated by Thomas Legrand is reason enough to visit. Bottles are carefully selected, showcasing vibrant producers and characterful appellations, all at prices that remain relatively measured by Paris standards. Pairings are designed to complement the cuisine rather than overshadow it.

The restaurant also welcomes guests for a relaxed drink, accompanied by Iberian charcuterie or a plate of carefully chosen cheeses, in a convivial and unpretentious spirit.
