Kanoun, oriental pastries and a sense of moderni-tea

Categories : Eating, published on : 5/2/18

With its midnight blue frontage, brass detailing and red brick columns, the exterior facade of this new Oriental tea room certainly sets the tone. There are no folklore touches, no ostentation in the décor. Indeed, the Studio Vincent Eschalier and interior designer Diane de Kergal have chosen a sober and uncluttered look for the interiors. Beautifully made from veined Carrara marble, the imposing counter, its highlights picked out by a sculptural blown glass chandelier, gives pride of place to orange blossom pastries sprinkled with almonds and pistachios. Opposite, like a cocoon, a banquette follows the contours of the three alcoves where the time has come to infuse some mint leaves in a pretty copper teapot. As the sun’s first rays spill brightly within, Kanoon offers delights that you’ll find difficult to resist!
