On the roofs of Paris, strawberries!

Categories : Lifestyle, published on : 4/25/18

An island of greenery perched on the roof of the BHV Marais department store, the 1420 m2 vertical garden planted last year by the Parisian start-up Sous Les Fraises (Under the Strawberries) yields plenty! More than 20,000 edible and aromatic plants, fruits and vegetables grow and flourish on the largest planted area of its kind in France, to the delight of Michelin starred chefs Bertrand Grébaut de Septime and Gérard Colinot. But that’s not all! Because, by launching the brand called Farmhouse, this budding start-up now intends to share with the general public the fresh and tasty treasures that are grown in a network of farm gardens on the roofs of Paris. Located on the 3rd floor of the main BHV building you can find a pop-up store that looks just like an urban farm. This grocery store in the sky is ready to offer its first harvest of cherry tomato spreads and herb biscuits, as well as rosemary, thyme, strawberries and raspberries blended with honey to make candies and nougats. This jardin perché is open to the public, by reservation, every 1st Saturday of the month.
