The Carreau du Temple, heart of the North Marais

The monumental façade of this construction of glass and brick, which has just been reopened after years of painstaking restoration work, is in itself well worth the trip to view. This former covered market dating from the 19th century was stripped back to its impressive skeleton and rebuilt in a way that reveals all of its architectural beauty while still ensuring that it is fully functional for the 21st century. It has been transformed into a major events and exhibition space, an arts and culture centre and a major venue in the heart of the North Marais, open to all. Music, theatre, dance, sport, fashion, design, lifestyle, you name it, the Carreau du Temple can handle it and does so with aplomb. This superb facility even offers performance and recording facilities and a 250 seat auditorium. Saved from demolition by the voice of the people, and with its new purpose selected by a public vote, the Carreau du Temple now has a new lease of life and is ready to entertain you. JR.
