Paris lights up for the European Museum Night

On 23 May 2026, Paris will come alive for the 22nd edition of the European Museum Night. Each year, this initiative led by the French Ministry of Culture transforms the capital into a vast cultural playground: more than 80 Parisian institutions open their doors free of charge after dark, offering a programme designed to surprise and delight.

As evening falls, Paris reveals a different side of itself. Familiar monuments, well-known collections, rooms visited many times before, everything takes on a new dimension under the night sky. The European Museum Night is a chance to reconnect with the art and history of the city, in a freer, more unexpected way.

A night to explore, free of charge

From dusk until midnight, the capital's museums welcome visitors of all ages with no admission fee. The 2026 edition promises a rich and varied programme:

  • Talks, guided tours and immersive trails
  • Artworks brought to life through light and sound installations
  • Family activities and creative workshops
  • Free access to both permanent and temporary collections

A rare opportunity to step through doors that so often go unopened in day-to-day life.

The highlights of the evening

Among the museums taking part in this edition, several of Paris's most celebrated cultural institutions will be on hand, open free of charge from nightfall until midnight:

  • The Louvre Museum, breathtaking under the evening lights
  • The Musée d'Orsay, a jewel of Impressionist painting
  • The Musée Carnavalet, where centuries of Parisian history come to life
  • The Musée de la Vie Romantique, reopening after seventeen months of renovation, with a special late-night opening until 11 pm

This last venue holds a particularly special place in this year's programme. Tucked away in the 9th arrondissement, in the former home of painter Ary Scheffer, it will welcome the Voco-Cello duo, soprano and cello, performing outdoors in its courtyard, surrounded by its 300 works.

"La classe, l'œuvre!": students become cultural mediators

This edition will once again include the "La classe, l'œuvre!" initiative, run in partnership with the French Ministry of National Education and Youth. Primary, middle and high school students will have the chance to step into the role of cultural mediators for the evening, sharing their knowledge with classmates and family members. Since 2013, countless classes have taken part by creating their own artistic projects, bringing a spirit of creativity and energy to Museum Night.

A Parisian night within easy reach

Ideally located in the 11th arrondissement, Hôtel Fabric is the perfect base for this cultural evening. Just a short walk away, the Atelier des Lumières offers an immersive digital art experience set inside a former foundry. Heading towards the Marais, the 3rd arrondissement is home to several museums joining the late-night event: the Musée Picasso, the Musée des Arts et Métiers, and the Musée Carnavalet. One flows naturally into the next — on foot, from neighbourhood to neighbourhood, from collection to collection.
