The Perfect Exhibition During Fashion Week

In an effervescent Paris, with Fashion Week just around the corner, why not extend the fashion experience by taking the time to understand what truly makes a garment beautiful? Head to the Palais Galliera, the City of Paris Fashion Museum, to discover the exhibition “Weaving, Embroidering, Embellishing. The Crafts and Trades of Fashion”, a genuine immersion into the art of textile craftsmanship.

An Exhibition Dedicated to Fashion Craftsmanship

Until October 18, 2026, the Palais Galliera launches a new cycle of exhibitions devoted to the professions and techniques of fashion. This inaugural show highlights the decorative arts of fashion: weaving, embroidery, lace-making, textile printing, and more. These precious techniques, from the 18th century to today, have long enhanced garments and accessories.

The common thread? Flowers—an iconic and timeless fashion motif—explored through materials, volumes, colors, and symbolism.

From the 18th Century to Contemporary Creation

The exhibition brings together over 350 works, including garments, accessories, photographs, drawings, textile samples, and tools. Among the highlights:

  • an 18th-century brocaded waistcoat

  • a laser print by Balenciaga

  • Chantilly lace

  • Gabrielle Chanel’s iconic camellia

But the exhibition does more than display—it explains. Tables equipped with magnifying glasses and samples invite visitors to closely observe the complexity of the gestures, the precision of the techniques, and the time required for each creation. A form of luxury far from the spotlight, yet absolutely essential.

Restoring the Artisans of Fashion to Center Stage: Palais Galliera’s Mission

Another major strength of the exhibition is its focus on those who work behind the scenes of the great names. Embroiderers, textile designers, feather workers, floral artisans… These exceptional craftspeople have shaped Paris’s reputation as the world capital of fashion and savoir-faire.

Historic houses such as Lesage and Hurel stand alongside contemporary figures like Baqué Molinié and Aurélia Leblanc, illustrating a living tradition—constantly transmitted and endlessly reinvented.

Staying at Hôtel Fabric, in the Heart of Paris’s Textile History

The fashion theme resonates particularly strongly with Hôtel Fabric, housed in a former factory where Paris’s textile heritage is woven into the very DNA of the place.

After this deep dive into fashion craftsmanship, what could be more natural than returning to the singular atmosphere of Hôtel Fabric? A former textile mill transformed into a design hotel, it embodies, quite stylishly, the dialogue between industrial heritage, craftsmanship, and contemporary creation.

An ideal address for lovers of fashion, design, and culture who wish to experience Paris differently… but always with style.
