Paris Opera – The 2026-2027 Programme

It's impossible to talk about Paris without talking about its opera. The 2026 Ring Festival: the season's flagship event

The highlight of this autumn season, the Ring Festival marks the triumphant return of The Ring of the Nibelung to the Opéra Bastille. The four instalments of Wagner's Tetralogy, Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung, are performed in full cycles in November 2026, in a new staging by Calixto Bieito and under the musical direction of Pablo Heras-Casado.

The event coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Ring's creation and extends well beyond the stage: an exhibition devoted to the work, co-produced with the Bibliothèque nationale de France, runs from October 2026 to February 2027 at the Palais Garnier, alongside a series of talks with specialists and members of the artistic teams. For Wagner enthusiasts and the simply curious alike, the Opéra offers several Ring pass formulas granting access to all four productions and the full accompanying cultural programme.

At the Palais Garnier, the programme explores a more contrasting repertoire with Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, Janáček's Katia Kabanova, Donizetti's Don Pasquale, and the contemporary creation Miroir de nos peines. Together, the two venues offer a complete journey through Europe's great operatic traditions.

Ballet takes centre stage

The Paris Opera Ballet holds an equally central place in this season, under the direction of José Martínez. On the bill: great classics such as La Fille mal gardée and a new Giselle by Johan Inger, alongside more contemporary creations bringing together the likes of William Forsythe, Jean-Christophe Maillot and Thierry Malandain. The mixed programmes Paysages intérieurs, Pulsations and Éclats de danse offer a chance to discover several choreographic worlds in a single evening.
