An Unmissable Art Event in Paris
The Musée du Luxembourg is devoting an exceptional exhibition to Pierre Soulages, the undisputed master of abstract art and black light. Entitled “Pierre Soulages: Another Light - Paintings on Paper”, this retrospective invites visitors to discover a more intimate side of the artist through a rare collection of works on paper.
A Tribute to Light and Material
Seldom exhibited, Soulages’ works on paper reveal the artist’s tireless exploration of contrast, gesture, and light. Created between the 1940s and the early 2000s, these paintings reflect the painter’s freedom and expressive strength.
Walnut stain, ink, gouache — Soulages used these materials to explore the tension between opacity and transparency, black and white, emptiness and fullness.
Thanks to exceptional loans from the Soulages Museum in Rodez, the exhibition brings together around 130 works, including several never before shown to the public. Long kept in the artist’s studio, these pieces offer a deeply personal journey into his creative process.
A Minimalist Setting for a Powerful Work
Nestled in the lush surroundings of the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Musée du Luxembourg presents a simple yet striking scenography, where Soulages’ lines, forms, and shades of black fully express their power. The works converse with one another, forming a rhythm like a visual symphony of light.
Portraits and video projections punctuate the exhibition, allowing visitors to rediscover the artist through his voice, gestures, and reflections on painting.
To extend the experience, a virtual reality immersion takes visitors into the world of the master of Outrenoir — a poetic journey through more than half a century of creation.
A Cultural Stay in the Heart of Paris
After a morning at the museum, take a stroll through the Jardin du Luxembourg, a true haven of peace in the 6th arrondissement, before returning to the comfort and elegance of your room at Hotel Fabric.
