The Olympic Cauldron in Paris: A Living Emblem in the Tuileries Sky

Categories : Lifestyle, published on : 7/31/25

A symbol of unity

The summer of 2024 will long be remembered as a powerful moment of celebration and togetherness for the people of Paris. Beyond the sporting achievements, the event brought people together, inspired, and gave life to values of unity, sharing and collective commitment. To continue this momentum, the President of the Republic, in collaboration with the City of Paris and national sports organisations, has decided that the emblematic cauldron will rise into the Parisian sky every summer until 2027.

Installed in the Jardin des Tuileries, the iconic garden next to the Louvre Museum, the cauldron — designed by Mathieu Lehanneur — takes the form of a luminous ring without flame, lifted by a balloon. This innovative "flame", made entirely of water and light, embodies the poetic and sustainable spirit of the Paris Games.

A magical moment in the heart of the Parisian summer

Until 14 September, the date of the Festival of Sport, the cauldron rises each evening above the Jardin des Tuileries. In the golden light of dusk, it becomes a glowing landmark in the sky, visible from the banks of the Seine or the city’s bridges.

This evening ritual invites quiet contemplation and rekindles the spirit of 2024 through a transition filled with beauty and emotion.

A place between history and the future

The Jardin des Tuileries, chosen once again to host the cauldron, was no random selection. This emblematic site in the capital was a focal point during the event, welcoming festivities, artistic displays and shared moments. It also pays tribute to another feat of innovation: the first hydrogen gas balloon flight in 1783, which took off from this very location.

The return of the cauldron to this prestigious setting creates a dialogue between heritage and innovation, tradition and progress, artistic vision and civic engagement.

An experience not to be missed during your stay

If you're visiting Paris this summer, be sure to witness this unique aerial display. Stroll through the tree-lined paths of the Tuileries at dusk, soak in the soft atmosphere, then look up. The cauldron rises slowly, glowing and silent — a gentle reminder of the shared values that unite people through sport, culture and peace.
